Born in Seoul, South Korea, Kim attended Michigan State University, where he was a varsity wrestler. After graduation, he worked on Madison Avenue, gaining experience in advertising and marketing for major brands like American Express, Playtex, Smucker’s, Marriott Hotels, Citibank, and AT&T. During his corporate career, Kim played a key role in launching the first color newspaper using digital technology at USA Today. He later applied his technological expertise to various advertising and marketing disciplines, helping to establish the first Data Analytics Group at Valassis Communications, a Fortune 1000 firm.
In 2001, Kim used his Madison Avenue experience to launch the first data mining marketing analytics firm in the Greater Cincinnati region. The firm was recognized by the local chamber of commerce as one of the “Fastest Growing Firms” for five consecutive years and was awarded the Small Business Administration’s Company of the Year in 2005. Kim went on to acquire four other firms, including Deskey Branding, the agency credited with creating the iconic Crest and Tide brands. Under his leadership, Deskey developed the Crest Pro Health Brand, which won an EFFIE, America’s highest advertising and marketing award, in 2009.
Together with his wife, Kim started or acquired other leading marketing firms, including Magnet Digital & Data, one of the region’s largest, and B & B Research, one of the most respected consumer research firms. Currently, Kim serves as President and COO of DirecFunds, a Fintech company that prevents wire fraud. He is also President of Magnet Digital & Data and B & B Research Corporation.
